Multi-hour Guided Tour
From November to the end of March we run multi-hour guided tours (Science Day), mainly for primary and secondary schools. In the company of a guide we tour the zoo over 4 to 5 school lessons, experience the animals and, with the help of biological materials, get a closer look at the characteristics of different animal groups. The Science Day programme meets the learning objectives set out in the curricula.
About the programme
From November to the end of March we run Science Days, mainly for primary and secondary schools. Within the Science Day programme we reach and meet the learning objectives set out in the curricula for Environmental Studies, Science and Technology, Science, Biology and the elective subject Organisms in their Natural and Man-Made Environment. In this way we support the teacher in delivering new material as well as in reinforcing existing knowledge.
At ZOO Ljubljana we follow the professional guidelines of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), of which we are members. In our work we must ensure the welfare of the animals at all times, including during educational programmes. For this reason we limit the involvement of small wild animals in learning sessions. We can, however, offer hands-on insect experiences and, of course, guided observation of the animals in their enclosures.
How it works
During the Science Day programme we experience the animals and observe them with a guide in their enclosures. With the help of biological material (skins, feathers, bones, footprint casts) we introduce the basic features of each animal group.
