Celebrating Gregor’s Day 

For the fifth year running, we are reviving Gregor’s Day at ZOO Ljubljana — when the birds are getting married — in a slightly different way. Instead of floating ‘gregorčki’ (little lights) on the water, we will be making ZOO gregorčki. With photographer, author and outstanding bird expert Ivan Esenko, you will be able to listen to birdsong and identify birds by their call and appearance. Along the way you can discover the secrets of the bird world, learn what makes a good nest box and where and how to install one correctly. From a photography tent you can also capture your own ‘gregorček’ with your camera. 

When: Saturday and Sunday, 14 and 15 March, from 11:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 16:00
Location: the wildlife hotel at ZOO Ljubljana 

Fun quiz ''Interesting facts from the lives of birds''

In the upper part of the zoo we have installed bird-shaped boards with interesting facts about their courtship. You’ll learn how a peacock displays to the females, how a pair of crows share the duties of nesting, that a tit can even nest in a letterbox, how a woodpecker shows its mate suitable places for the nest, and whether it is really true that magpies love shiny objects. When: from 5 to 19 March 2026
