Your Questions

Frequently asked questions

Personal use: Photographs taken in the zoo may be freely used for personal purposes, including sharing on social media and in personal albums. If other visitors or zoo staff appear in the photographs, publication is not permitted without their prior consent.

Educational and non-commercial use: Photographs may be used for educational or non-commercial purposes, for example in school projects or non-commercial presentations about nature conservation, provided the location where the photographs were taken is clearly stated.

Commercial use: Any commercial use of photographs, whether of the animals or our grounds, requires prior written permission from the zoo. This means that photographs may not be sold, used for advertising, included in retail products or otherwise financially exploited without the zoo's express consent. ZOO Ljubljana reserves the right to require, as compensation for granting permission for commercial use of photographs taken anywhere on the grounds of ZOO Ljubljana, that the author — via a Declaration of Transfer of Material Rights — provide the created materials free of charge to ZOO Ljubljana for archive purposes, for publication on the zoo website or for use for promotional purposes for an indefinite period, whereby ZOO Ljubljana is obliged to credit the author by name upon publication.

Protection of reputation: Photographs may not be used in a way that damages the reputation of the zoo, or in a way that is misleading or inappropriately represents the animals or the zoo.

Special restrictions: Any special restrictions on photographing certain areas or animals in the zoo are in place for the welfare of our animals and the safety of visitors. Photography must not disturb visitors, staff or the animals of ZOO Ljubljana.

ZOO Ljubljana is open every day, including Sundays and all public holidays.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in our zoo; a ticket must be purchased for them. They must be kept on a lead for the duration of the visit and must follow etiquette and safety rules. Dogs may not enter the Mini Zoo, the Australia enclosure or the children's play areas.

No, the day ticket is valid for a single entry. You may briefly leave the zoo and return if, for example, you have forgotten something in your car (please inform the ticket desk beforehand).

No, in the event of worsening weather, the ticket cannot be "transferred" to another day. The purchase price is also not refunded.

Zoos do not buy animals; we exchange them among ourselves. The costs associated with acquiring new animals consist of transport and preparing suitable accommodation for the animal.

No. The zoo does not currently accept volunteers.

Since 2003, the zoo no longer runs a Shelter for Wild Animals. If you come across an injured or sick animal, please call the Shelter for Wild Animals in Koroška (Muta) on 02 876 12 85 or 041 518 939.

ZOO Ljubljana has a few smaller animals we handle, but we do not take them to schools for presentations. We invite schools to visit us at the zoo, where they can see many more members of the animal kingdom and gain a more complete picture of it.

The lower part of the zoo is more or less flat and accessible for wheelchair users. Only the upper part of the zoo, where the native species are housed, is not suitable for wheelchairs. Accessible toilets are available at the entrance and next to the restaurant.

Zoo visitors have free use of the paved car park in front of the zoo and the gravel car park across the cycle path opposite the zoo entrance. The paid roadside car park (managed by Ljubljanska parkirišča in tržnice) is paid on weekdays from 07:00 to 19:00 and free at weekends. The car park opposite the zoo by the meadow is privately owned and paid.

Visitors may pet animals only in the Mini Zoo, and not in their resting areas. Other animals must not be petted, but you may enquire about zoo programmes that provide supervised contact with some of them.

No, this is strictly forbidden. The animals have special diets with precisely defined quantities, quality and type of food. Too much of one type of food or unsuitable food can be fatal for the animal. Visitors may watch the animals being fed according to the feeding schedule. Purchase of feeding coupons is no longer available.

Please strictly follow the rules against touching and feeding the animals on these days. Beyond preventing any potential transmission of a virus, this also helps ensure the animals eat everything they need and nothing in excess.

Not at the moment. There is also no Urbana machine in the immediate vicinity of the zoo, so please check your balance before visiting, or take advantage of paying for the bus fare with your mobile phone.

Yes, LPP bus routes 18 and 18L pass by the zoo.

No, family tickets are not part of our offer.

No. We accept cash and cards at the zoo entrance, at the Medvedji rob shop and at the Safari restaurant.

Yes, but please keep the area tidy, take your rubbish with you, and do not use it to feed the animals.

There is also a Safari restaurant on the zoo grounds.
