Valentine’s, Gregor’s, Mother’s Day
For our visitors we prepare a variety of themed tours. Through them we want you to get to know our animals in a special way, have fun and learn a lot in a playful way. Themed tours last from 30 minutes to two hours. We have prepared Valentine’s Day, Gregor’s Day, Mother’s Day, The Zoo at Night, Giraffe Indoor Areas, Halloween, Witches’ Day and Animal Kitchen.
Gregor’s Day
In Slovenian folklore, 12 March was the first day of spring. St Gregory, also known as the bearer of light, had his feast day on this day. His light represents the lengthening of the day and the shortening of the night. Birds were said to sing especially loudly on this day, which is why it was also Slovenia’s day of lovers.
With the longer day and higher temperatures, the birds are preparing to nest and are courting one another. So on Gregor’s Day at ZOO Ljubljana we prepare adventures around interesting facts from the lives of birds.
I. Fun quiz ''Interesting facts from the lives of birds''
We have installed bird-shaped information boards in the upper part of the zoo with interesting facts about their courtship. You’ll learn how a peacock displays to the females, how a pair of crows share duties during nesting, that a tit can even nest in a letterbox, how a woodpecker shows its mate suitable places for the nest and whether it’s really true that magpies love shiny objects.
You are invited to bird adventures and to a fun quiz about bird courtship, available at the ticket desk or during the adventure.
Mother’s Day at ZOO Ljubljana — The Funniest of Animal Family Life
Have you heard of the animal nursery, lion-hearted mothers and taxi parents? Do you know how an ostrich gets rid of its competition, which newborn has to climb "Triglav" or how newborn young recognise their mother?
You are warmly invited to learn about the funniest family traditions of the animal world, which we have prepared for families around Mother’s Day from 22 March to Easter 2024.
During this time, sunflower-shaped boards with interesting facts from the animals’ family life will be placed next to some of the enclosures.
The boards can be found at the zebra, giraffe, chimpanzee, marmoset, bear, black stork, kangaroo, emu, at the entrance to the vivarium and at the Asiatic lion.
You can pick up a fun quiz at the ticket desk. Correct answers on the slip will earn you a 1+1 free voucher for the Meet Your Favourite Animal programme for two people.
Valentine’s Day at ZOO Ljubljana — The Funniest of Animal Love Life
Do you know the lucky soul who might get away with giving a gift to their beloved, or the lover with the biggest heart and racing pulse, and other funny romantic traditions of the animal world? If you wonder, for example, who pays a high price for love, which mother is lion-hearted but not a lioness, or which couples take separate holidays, then come and visit us at Valentine’s Day from 9 to 18 February 2024.
During this time, heart-shaped boards with interesting facts from the animals’ love life will be placed next to some of the enclosures.
The boards can be found at the entrance, cheetah, giraffe, bear, wolf, Canadian beaver, elephant, emu, at the entrance to the vivarium and at the Asiatic lion.
