Animal Spotted at Rožnik Was a Dog, Not a Wolf

In recent days, ZOO Ljubljana has received several enquiries and seen various posts on social media suggesting that a wolf — and one from our zoo — was walking around the Mostec area in Ljubljana.

ZOO Ljubljana officially confirms that all wolves are in care and under constant supervision by staff, in their enclosure, safe and unharmed.

What actually happened?

Yesterday we received a call from a resident who spotted an animal in the Ljubljana area which they believed to be a wolf. Out of concern for public safety, the relevant professional services went to the scene immediately. On inspection it was established that it was not a wolf but a lost dog of the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog breed. This breed looks very similar to a wolf, which often leads to such misunderstandings. In the meantime, the dog has already been successfully reunited with her owner.

Thank you all for your concern and attention. In similar cases, please rely on verified information and the official communication channels of ZOO Ljubljana, and please do not spread unverified posts.

We are available for further clarifications.
