2025 was a special year for ZOO Ljubljana: we celebrated the big jubilee of our elephant Ganga, who turned 50. As an ambassador for her Asian and African relatives, she marked the whole year. We enriched the programme for our visitors with many activities and sought to introduce Ganga not only as a unique and charismatic being, but also as a representative of a species disappearing from the wild. Our aim was to highlight the most interesting traits of Asian elephants, present the latest findings of experts, and draw attention to the issue of trade in parts of these wonderful animals and the importance of their protection.

Obtaining Ganga’s footprint was harder than we thought, as the elephant has a strong will and needs kind words and, of course, a reward in the form of treats. Through training, the keepers rewarded Ganga to the point where the print was made. This print is a unique and one-of-a-kind keepsake from Ganga’s jubilee year 2025.

In the presence of our Ganga, both staff and visitors feel something sacred — peace when you look her in the eyes, the strength hidden in her gentleness, and the warmth that reminds you greatness means not only strength, but above all compassion and patience. As one of her keepers wrote: "I have learned from Ganga to enjoy small things — to be patient, persistent and grateful."

Ganga has left her mark on this jubilee year — now you can leave yours too.

Auction item
The auction item is a unique, original print of the footprint of elephant Ganga, made in her jubilee year 2025. The print is a singular keepsake of Ganga’s 50th anniversary and of her ambassadorial role in raising awareness of the threats facing Asian and African elephants.

Type of auction
The auction takes place as a closed auction with written offers. Participants submit their offers using the form at the ZOO Ljubljana ticket desk. Offers from other participants are not publicly visible. The form, which participants can find on the website zoo.si, can also be submitted by email to ganga50@zoo.si. 

Auction participants
All adults may take part in the auction.
An individual may participate in their own name.
By submitting an offer, the participant confirms that they agree to these auction rules.

Submitting an offer
You submit your offer at the ZOO Ljubljana ticket desk using the form provided, or you can send the scanned form by email to ganga50@zoo.si
The auction runs from 10.12.2025 to 10.1.2026

Starting price and bid increments
The starting price for Ganga’s print is €200.
The recommended minimum bid increment is €10.
Each participant may submit multiple offers; only their highest valid offer remains in force.

Auction duration and closing
The auction runs from 10.12.2025 to 10.1.2026.
After the auction closes, no new offers can be submitted.
The winning offer is the highest valid offer received by the time the auction closes.

Selecting the winner and notifying them
After the auction closes, ZOO Ljubljana reviews all received offers and determines the highest valid offer.
The bidder with the highest amount is the winner of the auction and the future owner of Ganga’s print.
The winner will be notified of their success by phone and/or email within two weeks of the auction closing.

Payment and collection of Ganga’s print
The winner must confirm their interest and arrange payment within three days.
Payment is made by transfer to the ZOO Ljubljana bank account. After the payment is received, the winner collects Ganga’s print at ZOO Ljubljana and receives an invoice.

If the winner withdraws
If the winner does not confirm participation or does not make payment within the stated deadline, they are deemed to have withdrawn from the auction.
In this case, ZOO Ljubljana reserves the right to contact the next highest bidder.

Use of funds raised
The funds raised at Ganga’s print auction will be used to educate visitors about elephant conservation.

Data protection
ZOO Ljubljana will use participants’ personal data solely for the purpose of running the auction and in accordance with applicable data protection legislation.
The winner’s first and last name may be published (only with the winner’s prior consent).
Copying and selling copies of the Footprint is not permitted.

Final provisions
These rules are also published at the ZOO Ljubljana ticket desk and available to all participants.
By submitting an offer, the participant confirms that they are familiar with these rules and agrees to them.
ZOO Ljubljana reserves the right to make minor changes to the auction rules; any changes will be published in good time in the same place as these rules.
