Male Asiatic lions have a longer tuft of hair at the tip of the tail compared with African lions, and a smaller, shorter mane, which makes the ears on top of their head more visible. The mane becomes bushier and darker with age, as does the colour of the nose. They have a more prominent tuft of hair at the elbows. Both male and female have a skin fold on the belly, which is only rarely seen in African lions.
We train Asiatic lions for basic clinical examinations and blood sampling.

Birthday Celebration
You can celebrate a birthday at ZOO Ljubljana. During the celebration we experience smaller domesticated animals, with a focus on insects. We also visit the more charismatic larger animals in their enclosures and learn many interesting things about them. The celebrations are educational and fun, suitable for children and adults alike. We provide food, drink and an educational and entertaining programme.
