Black-and-white Ruffed Lemur

Varecia variegata (variegata)

Ghosts of Madagascar
Black-and-white ruffed lemurs live in families. As a rule, a group consists of a pair and up to eight offspring. In the rainy season they can also join into larger, unrelated groups. Within a group, bonds are stronger between the females, who are larger than the males and have the leading role in the group. Females also defend the territory more often than males.
