Ursus arctos
RECORD-HOLDER: The brown bear is the largest carnivore not only in Slovenia but in all of Europe. They can weigh up to 450 kg. Brown bears are the largest carnivores in Slovenia and Europe, and — right behind their cousin the polar bear — the second-largest land predators in the world. With their powerful jaws and paws, they are instantly recognisable as dangerous predators, but their teeth and digestive system reveal that bears are omnivores, just like humans.

Birthday Celebration
You can celebrate a birthday at ZOO Ljubljana. During the celebration we experience smaller domesticated animals, with a focus on insects. We also visit the more charismatic larger animals in their enclosures and learn many interesting things about them. The celebrations are educational and fun, suitable for children and adults alike. We provide food, drink and an educational and entertaining programme.
