In December 2016, on the basis of extensive research carried out in Africa, giraffes were added to the IUCN Red List as a vulnerable species. Over the past 30 years their numbers have fallen by an incredible 40%. It is estimated that today fewer than 100,000 giraffes remain in the whole of Africa. The causes are loss, degradation and fragmentation of their natural environment through human expansion linked to population growth, and illegal hunting of giraffes.

Birthday Celebration
You can celebrate a birthday at ZOO Ljubljana. During the celebration we experience smaller domesticated animals, with a focus on insects. We also visit the more charismatic larger animals in their enclosures and learn many interesting things about them. The celebrations are educational and fun, suitable for children and adults alike. We provide food, drink and an educational and entertaining programme.
