Persian Leopard

Panthera pardus saxicolor

The leopard — the smallest of the big cats
Among the big cats, we immediately recognise the one with the distinctive "leopard" pattern. The coat colour and pattern can differ slightly between populations or subspecies. Because they have adapted to different habitats, leopard subspecies also differ in size, diet and other features. The Persian leopard (Panthera pardus saxicolor), which you can see in our zoo, is one of the larger subspecies; they weigh up to 90 kg and are on average 158 cm long.
