Bolivian Squirrel Monkey

Saimiri boliviensis

Mr Ficko is a squirrel monkey
Bolivian squirrel monkeys are very social animals; in the wild in the tropics they live in troops of 45 to 75 members, which occasionally merge into still larger groups. Females remain all their lives in the troop where they were born, while males at 4 to 5 years of age leave their natal troop, spend some time in a male-only group, and then seek out a new troop.

Living in a group brings squirrel monkeys greater safety from predators and more success in hunting insects. They strengthen bonds within the troop through mutual grooming of fur and removal of parasites, and through shared care of the young.

They communicate with one another using facial expressions, body posture and squeaking calls.
