Yellow-Cheeked Gibbon

Nomascus gabriellae

Long arms and song
Gibbons have characteristically long arms, with which they move through the tree canopy. They rarely come down from the tall trees to the ground. They are also known for their loud, song-like calls, with various rising tones and trills, which can last 10 minutes. With these calls the male and female announce daily to other gibbons that they are a pair and where their territory is. Sometimes older offspring also join in. Through song they also reinforce their bonds.
